{"id":1988,"date":"2017-09-28T13:47:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T20:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ucore.wsu.edu\/assessment\/?page_id=1988"},"modified":"2024-11-27T12:00:25","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T20:00:25","slug":"communication","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ucore.wsu.edu\/assessment\/assessments-by-learning-goal\/communication\/","title":{"rendered":"Communication"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--single\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Communication<\/h1>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--single\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p><em><b>All UCORE courses require students to demonstrate designator learning <\/b><\/em><strong><em>outcomes that advance <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Written Communication<\/span>, a sub-goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/daesa.wsu.edu\/undergraduate-learning-goals\/#communication\">WSU&#8217;s Communication Learning Goal<\/a>, totaling a minimum of 34 credit hours in UCORE-designated courses that include instruction and\/or engagement with Written Communication (<em><strong>see the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ucore.wsu.edu\/assessment\/documents\/2017\/04\/map_ucore-requirements-and-7-learning-goals.pdf\">UCORE Curriculum Map (PDF)<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ucore.wsu.edu\/faculty\/the-ucore-curriculum\/\">UCORE Curriculum webpages<\/a>)<\/strong><\/em>. <\/em><\/strong>At the first-year level, the first-year experience course [ROOT] and foundational requirements advance Written Communication. At the senior-level, the senior capstone experience course [CAPS] advances Written Communication. Students also complete ways of knowing requirements, which advance Written Communication, during the UCORE curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Additionally, UCORE courses require students to demonstrate designator learning outcomes that advance <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Non-written Communication<\/span> as appropriate to the designator (see the&nbsp;<a href=\"\/assessment\/documents\/2017\/04\/map_ucore-requirements-and-7-learning-goals.pdf\">UCORE Curriculum Map (PDF)<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"\/faculty\/the-ucore-curriculum\/\">UCORE Curriculum webpages<\/a>).<\/strong><\/em> At the first year-level, students may complete a foundational Communication course [COMM] that advances Non-written Communication (note: students can take a second [WRTG] course instead of a [COMM] course). At the senior-level, Non-written Communication may be required in the senior capstone experience course [CAPS] as appropriate to the course and discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: Announced in May 2022,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ucore.wsu.edu\/2022\/05\/03\/ucore-committee-approves-revised-student-learning-outcomes\/\">revised designator learning outcomes<\/a>&nbsp;were approved by the UCORE Committee to help clarify what students, regardless of major, should be able to know and do upon the successful completion of a course in that designator.
