Apply to the Core to Career Program

Thank you for your interest in the Core to Career program.

Faculty based on the Pullman campus who are teaching a UCORE course in AY 2024-25 are invited to apply to join the Core to Career program’s fourth faculty cohort.

Core to Career aims to empower faculty with the tools, language, and theoretical framework to intentionally teach career readiness in general education (UCORE) courses. Too often students fail to see the inherent value in coursework that fall outside of their intended major. Faculty can help by emphasizing and offering opportunities to practice essential skills for any life or career pursuit.

What Is Core to Career?

Core to Career is an in-person, Fall semester experience on the Pullman campus. Successful completion of the fellowship carries with it a $1000 stipend. At the conclusion of the workshop series, fellows will present and receive feedback on their course revision plans and then implement those plans in Spring 2025. Therefore, we especially invite you to submit a course that you reasonably anticipate teaching in Spring 2025 semester so that you are best able to apply new ideas to design and delivery following the workshop series. Not sure if you are teaching a UCORE course next Spring? Apply anyway!

Dates and Workshops

Here is a basic outline of dates and workshops for your scheduling consideration:

  • Seven 90-minute workshops, Wednesdays, 3pm-4:30pm, in-person in Spark 102: Focus on specific career competencies through a combination of guest facilitators, collaborative experiential learning, and collective reflection and planning.
    • Workshop dates are as follows: August 28, September 11, September 25, October 9, October 23, November 6, and November 20.
  • One 2-hour course revision workshop, Wednesday December 11, 2-4pm, in-person, Spark 102: Faculty fellows give and receive feedback on Spring 2025 course revision plans prior to implementation the following semester.
  • 1 two-hour showcase (May 2025, date/time TBD): Share Spring 2025 implementation results and lessons learned with each other and with next cohort.

Kindly consult your Fall 2024 teaching schedule and other obligations to consider whether you can join us for this professional development opportunity. Successful applicants are expected to attend and participate in person in all sessions. If you are available, we welcome you to apply to the program using the form below.

We also hope you will be able to join us at the end of this semester on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 9-11am in CUE 518 to learn more about the program and to hear how colleagues in the second cohort approached implementation of career readiness this Spring semester. Your selection for the AY 2024-25 cohort is not contingent on your ability to attend this event. But we do hope you can make it! Please submit an RSVP using our online form.
