2023 Biennial UCORE Assessment Summary of Student Achievement Available

The 2023 Biennial Summary of Student Achievement of UCORE Learning Outcomes (PDF) is now available to WSU faculty, leadership, and other stakeholders. This report summarizes the results of UCORE assessment on the learning outcomes of the UCORE general education program (and the associated WSU Undergraduate Learning Goals), using data collected in AY 2021-22 and AY 2022-23.

Ashley Boyd Appointed as New UCORE Director

Helping faculty design classes for the new equity and justice course designation and addressing the changing educational landscape catalyzed by ChatGPT are two areas that Ashley Boyd, incoming director of University Common Requirements (UCORE), looks forward to addressing. Boyd, a Washington State University associate professor of English, began her new position as UCORE director on Sept. 1. She replaces history Professor Clif Stratton, who served as UCORE director for the past four years before becoming the inaugural Pullman campus vice chancellor for academic engagement.

Lisa Carloye receives the WSU Law award

The Washington State University Richard G. Law Excellence Award for Undergraduate Teaching for 2023 has been presented to Lisa Carloye, associate professor in biology. The award honors faculty who teach in the University Common Requirements (UCORE) curriculum and help undergraduates progress toward achieving WSU learning goals. “Dr. Carloye’s application stood out for the ways in which she brings to life the processes and concepts of science, using a wide variety of active pedagogical tools and practices that include sketching, mapping, creative group work, and even acting out concepts with household props like balloons, sponges, and plungers,” said Clif Stratton, UCORE director.
